Ultimately, if one wants to be accepted as female, appearance plays a much larger role than as a male.   Absence of a beard and female dress is important.  Other factors such as poor hair either natural or artificial, cosmetics, and voice are dead giveaways for someone early in transitioning.  Proper clothing for ones age and deportment are also important. Eventually, a professionally done picture sent to friends, relatives and employers will alleviate much of the fear of the unknown that grips individuals who find they must relate to a newly revealed transsexual woman.

I think it is worthwhile to get help on these issues.  I have listed some resources in Portland

 Makeup

Dermablend foundation usually in the sand or Chromagen 2 will cover most heavy beards for 6 hours and look natural.  It is available at Pennys and  Meier & Frank Department Stores.  You have to ask for it. A little goes a long way.
